Kombu Closes Market Street Location Effective Monday, July 13 2015

( July 11, 2015 )
Just over a year ago Kristen and I were honored to launch our own San Francisco restaurant. We moved our family across country with the dream of creating a magical place. Kombu has since been warmly embraced by the city and is busy six nights a week. We have poured our heart and soul into creating a place where people come together not only to enjoy beautiful food, but each others company.  We have made so many new incredible friends and are thankful for every person who has come through our door. We are also grateful for all the high ratings and glowing reviews and we want take a moment to thank our clientele, our partners, and especially our team.  Without you, none of this would have been possible.
It is with sad hearts that we announce Kombu’s closing.  Today will be our last day of operation and we would love to see all our friends and neighbors tonight for once last drink overlooking Market Street.   We realized early on that we needed to take advantage of the opportunity to open at our current address.  After opening, we quickly realized that our close proximity to a gym would hold us back from our mission to create a world class dining experience.  We have even hear that we “are on track to win a Michelin star, except for our location.”
We have set up a temporary kitchen in Oakland.   And while we are searching for a better location, we will be hosting pop-up events along with corporate catering and special event catering such as weddings and parties.  We will be updating our website and Facebook with important news about our next phase.  Our vision and optimism for the future is strong as well as our prospects.  Thank you all again for this amazing rocket ride!  Please stay tuned for more news soon, and eat as if your life depends on it.

I am on a mission to change how we think about healthy food. I actually think we should “eat as if our life depends on it”. Most of what you will experience- from our produce to our wine selection- was sustainably grown from local suppliers. Our beef is grass-fed. Our greens are organic. Our seafood is delivered fresh daily and filleted in house, and our wine list is Californian. We combine global flavors with seasonally inspired ingredients from my East Bay garden, local farms and vineyards, and wild foragers. We are honored to serve you and hope you taste the essence of our mission in every bite!
Chef Kristen
Nationally awarded chef, seasonally inspired new-American menu, ultra-modern ambiance welcome you to the area’s hottest new restaurant.
Our private and semi-private dining places are the perfect location for your next special event.

Delicious cuisine, innovative beverages, gracious service and sleek, modern surroundings set the stage for special memories.  The bar and restaurant’s floor-to-ceiling windows offer the perfect perch for people-watching and stunning city views of Market Street and Grant Avenue all the way to Chinatown’s iconic gate.

We offer an amazing healthy menu of food sourced mainly from local suppliers. The menu is created by our nationally recognized and award-winning executive chef Kristen Thibeault. We are extremely convenient, located in the heart of the city and enjoy great views of some of the best shopping in the Bay area. Our entrance is directly adjacent to the Four Seasons lobby entrance. We have dedicated elevators and are on the 4th floor.
